1. Use your electrical appliances during the day
The optimum time to switch on your appliances is between 10am and 4pm. You can purchase timer switches to ensure they are switched on during these times. They are available in branches of Argos, B&Q, and Wilko.
2. Update your electrical appliances
Many of today’s electrical appliances are more energy efficient than their previous models (say thirty years ago). Prior to making your purchase, look for the most energy efficient appliances and replace when necessary.
3. Adapt the way you use electricity
If you stagger the times you switch on your electrical appliances, you minimise the chance of drawing power from the grid.
4. Keep solar panels out of the shade
This one is pretty obvious as solar panels need natural light to function effectively. Once your solar panels have installed, check to see if there’s no obstructions. For example, trees and shrubbery, and the shadows they cast on your panels.
5. Keep your solar panels clean
The cleanliness of your panels also matter to their efficient operation, so it may be worth getting them cleaned now and again. Dust can be as problematic to their operation as well as tree cover. Especially if your neighbour is having an extension built, which means brick dust on your solar panels.
